Below are current Lompoc Valley Art Association members who show at the Cypress Gallery

We were recently saddened to lose Lucy Johnson, one of our longest standing and most active members. We honor her here with a special memorial page. And in 2005, we lost Darrell Brandon, who was instrumental in the forming of the Lompoc Valley Art Association and the creation of the Grossman Gallery in the Lompoc Library. We are proud to show these two LVAA honorary lifetime members on their individual memorial pages.

'MAJESTIC WARRIOR'

Mikki Alhart

"My goal is to illuminate the beauty of ordinary scenes. I passionately create from a very different vantage point than exact realism in that it is the emotion and song of art that means the most to me. My paintings reflect the romance and beauty of nature which inspires my soul." www.alhartenterprises.com

VICKI ANDERSEN

"I love color and painting quickly. The paint actually seems to flow out of my minds eye... to fall off my arm onto the canvas. A viewer once told me he "heard music" when he looked at my paintings." www.vickiandersen.com

'PRIVATE MOMENT'

MINNIE ANDERSON

"From the time I was a young child, I had a pencil in my hand doodling and drawing my dreams. Today I continue to capture memories past and present using graphite to combine realism with a touch of whimsey."

RED BAKER, by Ann Brink, 'Red Baker'
'RED BAKER'
ANN BRINK

"I use both stoneware and porcelain clays which I fire to 2250F degrees. All items which are intended for food use are lead free and food safe. Clay is a raw material which allows and inspires infinite forms of expression, and I enjoy making sculptural works as a challenging change of pace from functional pottery.

DEBORAH FULLER

"As a creator of photographic images, I am inspired by the people that I meet, the places I travel to, and new circumstances as I perceive them. Cherry Tea by Linda Gooch

LINDA GOOCH

"I've always been attracted to watercolor. The translucence of the medium and the idea of placing one wash over another to create an image of depth and intricacy appeals to me. Favorite subjects include detailed still lifes of personal objects, and familiar landscapes from my garden to nearby La Purisima Mission."

'School's Out', by Judith Grames-Lyra

JUDITH GRAMES-LYRA

"Watercolor is the medium I love best because of its challenging nature and the ability to work either transparent or opaque. Sometimes I feel the need to accept the challenge of realism, and other times, a need to express an idea through the manipulation of the medium, playing with its dimensions, color, contrasts, forms, and illusions."

Elizabeth MONKS Hack

"I consider my work 'Abstract Thought'. Getting to the way I paint was an intuitive process; one intuitive step at time. I think, however, the ideas may have come from the subconscious influence of a significant dream I had as a child, in which a colorful abstract mural came to life, and all the forms and shapes and colors were dancing in space. I like to think of my paintbrush as a wand with which I animate objects, like a magician.

Pelican by MARILYN HAINS

"Growing up in post-war Germany required imagination. My sisters and I created our own dolls and their wardrobes. I enjoyed working with different colors and patterns. A visit to my artist-uncle in Austria inspired me to take art classes and paint. The city of Wiesbaden is a Health Resort and the "Kurhaus" is one of the main attractions. I lived and worked in Wiesbaden for several years. "

NITA STREETMAN

"I am inspired by the relation of color to matter that I find in nature and in old architecture. It is as if all that I take in visually dances with the creative part of my mind. Then, through the medium of paint, ideas burst into expression on canvas, and feelings are transposed into forms."

Lisa TOTH

"I've been working at finding my niche in expressing myself in artistic mediums most of my life. I've worked in many mediums but find acrylics and gourds seem to be my addiction. If I'm not actually working on a gourd I'm probably thinking about it. My email tag line is: 'I am addicted to gourds. There is no cure and if there were I wouldn't take it.' That pretty much says it all.."
