March Featured Show

Robert Hamilton presents
"People, Places and Pleasures"

February 23 - March 28, 2010

Reception: Sunday, March 7, 2010, 1-3 PM

Point or No Point
Point or No Point by Robert Hamilton

“PEOPLE, PLACES & PLEASURES” is composed of two dozen framed photos of subjects reflecting the title. The photographs were taken in Europe and North America over the last several decades with one going back to 1959. All are in color and matted and framed. The collection is a loose tapestry of diverse scenes and subjects of natural beauty, interesting people and food and wine. There is a series of photographs that were taken at the same time at Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia, a very small fishing village in eastern Canada. The majority of the photos are of France taken over several previous vacations and there are six pieces from a recent trip to Spain. Two of Hamilton’s favorite pieces are “FUTURE FLORENTINE BISTECCA”, a photo taken in Chianti, Tuscany, Italy. It captures two Chianina cattle at a remote monastery in the Tuscan hills. The other is a group of men playing boules in a park on a Sunday afternoon in Barcelona, Spain. The boules players in the Barcelona park entitled “POINT OR NO POINT” will be sold as a silent auction item at the Sunday, March 7th reception to raise money for the Cypress Gallery. Some of the pictures in the exhibition will be For Sale.

Hamilton is a member of the Lompoc Valley Art Association which is hosting this show and also a member of the Lompoc Photographers Guild. The Guild recently had an exhibition 2009 Retrospective at the Grossman Library Gallery in which Hamilton was a participant. He will be the featured artist at the Grossman Gallery this June.

xmasLVAA Membership Programs

The Public is invited to Lompoc Valley Art Association monthly programs, normally held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the Alpha Club, 704 East Ocean in Lompoc. The progrom follows the membership meeting that starts at 7PM. There is also a half-hour of socializing starting at 6:30. No programs in January, July or December.

The next program on March 2, 2010 will feature

Collette Christel speaking on
traditional dark room printing processes.

Collette has been trained as a historian and it shows in the subjects that she choses to photograph and in the methods that she uses to create her images.  The method of printing that she will be discussing will be "Iron Prints."  This is a method that has it's beginnings at the very start of photography during the early 19th century.  These prints are achieved by hand-coating light sensitive solutions on to water-colour paper.  She will discuss the methods she uses and will demonstrate them by creating a print during the discussion.
